THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST NICHOLAS, HEDSOR |
Dream Children's Home |

Dream Children's Home is at Ngong near Nairobi and was founded by Rachel Gichia and
her husband Stephen. They have three children of their own and they started
by taking two children, orphaned by AIDs, to live as part of their family. They
did this at the request of their local church. They now have 38 orphaned children
from 3 to 17 years. They have to rely on sponsorship as there is no government
financial support. Rachel and her husband are extremely enterprising as they
use a small amount of land to produce some crops, raise chickens for meat and
eggs and they have some cows. In addition, Stephen fabricates many of the beds/bunks
and buildings. The children are being educated, but as often is the case
in Kenya, they have to walk miles to school. It is fantastic that they will be
supported by St Nicholas' Church this year. |
All these little girls sleep in this corrugated hut, 3 - 4 to a bunk or mattress |

The contact was made by John & Georgina's daughter Catherine who now works for the
BBC in Nairobi. The contact was made by her driver who lives near Ngong
and is a member of the local church. John & Georgina visited the orphanage on a recent holiday to Kenya and were so impressed by the achievements of Rachel that they were determined to support them. |
